Montego Bay History

Montego Bay Jamaica’s second city was known as “Elgolfo de buen tiempo” ( Fair Weather Bay ). The name Montego Bay derived from the Spanish word “ Manteca” meaning Lord . The Spanish used to butcher wild hogs in the mountains and ship the lord from this port.

Montego Bay as bean a tourist resort since the start of the 20th century when visitors were encouraged to use the Doctor’s Cave Beach for health reason. The creative power of the water was discovered by Chiropractor Sir Herbert Baker. Montego Bay is now the tourist capital of Jamaica and the largest number of guest rooms. Montego Bay also have a cruise ship port, convention centre and a International Airport.
